Morning Skincare Routine Using Dermatologist Skin Care Brands

As summer is fast approaching (and yes even if it is still overcast every day for those of us in Sunny Scotland and the rest of the UK) we thought now would be the perfect time to provide you with our Dr Skincare tips for the ultimate summer morning skincare routine using our favourite dermatologist skin care brands. Protecting your skin in the sun is probably one of the most important skin care topics in industry. Treating and caring for your skin when exposed to harsh UV Rays and environmental aggressors all day long can ultimately save your life because it prevents skin cancer. If you speak to any dermatologist, investing in a good SPF for daily use on your face is what they will tell you, and they cannot stress enough how important that is! So, why then do so few people actually take this seriously? In 2020 it was reported that only 37% of UK adults took an SPF with them when out and about to reapply during the day (Cancer Research UK, 2020). So, that’s why Dr Skincare is telling you all about how to level up your summer skin care routine using SPF and our favourite Dermatologist Skin Care Brands.

Firstly, let’s discuss how you can wake up and get that glow, all whilst protecting yourself from the sun this summer. Your morning routine is really important, not only physically but we believe it’s also important for your mental health. Waking up and pampering yourself should be on everyone’s morning to-do list, even if it is only for 5-10 minutes, it’s a great way to start the day right! And we know sometimes that mornings don’t always go as planned, you can run late or sleep in (we’ve all done it) but if there is one thing you do… ALWAYS TAKE YOUR SPF. On that note, let’s get into it!

Dr Skincare’s Summer Morning Skincare Routine Using Dr Skincare Approved Dermatologist Skin Care Brands

Step 1: Exfoliate (or Cleanse)

Step 1 is always to cleanse or exfoliate. We prefer exfoliating in the morning due to the oils produced by your skin while you sleep, removing impurities, dead skin and oils in the morning stops even more build up throughout the day as your skin is exposed to the environment. Additionally, the skin works to repair itself at night which can lead to the generation of dead skin cells, another reason you should wait until morning to exfoliate. The perfect product for this is the Goldfaden MD Doctor’s Scrub with Ruby Crystals, and we know by now you’re probably sick of us talking about this product, but we just love it! For an at-home exfoliator, it effectiveness has been compared to an in-salon microdermabrasion treatment and that’s why we can’t shut up about it! Derma-level skin care at home, exactly what we need and want. P.S. if you prefer to cleanse that’s also perfectly ok!

Step 2: Toner

After exfoliating or cleansing, you want to use your favourite toner. An effective toner is integral to your skin care routine as it refreshes the skin after cleansing or exfoliating without stripping the skin of its natural moisture, and rebalances skin pH. It also preps the skin for the next products in your routine including your serums, moisturisers, oils and SPF. To keep up with excess oil produce during the summer months, we recommend Murad’s Clarifying Toner. This product is also great for balanced and combination skin too that’s why we love it.

Dr Skincare Top Tip: ditch the cotton pads with your toner, use a muslin or decant some into a small spray bottle and spray directly on to the face (avoiding contact with eyes) it’s better for the environment and encourages your skin care routine to be less wasteful!

Step 3: Serum

The next step is to apply your serum. Face serums are a controversial topic in the world of skin care, with some saying they aren’t actually that necessary and just an additional step for those wanting to go the extra mile with their routine… And others swear by them, arguing that serums are absolutely necessary for a holistic skin care routine which ensures your skin is properly protected and hydrated throughout the day. We believe you should add a serum to your skin care routine, especially on those summer mornings – holistic hydration is key! In the summer months, it’s recommended to use Vitamin C in your routine because we develop more dark spots under strong UV rays, which also destroys collagen and results in more fine lines and wrinkles.

Treat yourself a serum that does it all this summer, with the Murad Environmental Shield Vita-C Glycolic Brightening Serum. This product is rated 4.4 stars on Amazon, with it being highly recommended for brightening, reducing fine lines, reducing dark spots and dark circles.

Step 4: Eye Cream

Step 4 is to apply eye cream, do not neglect the area around your orbital bone and eye socket this summer! It’s just as important as any other place on your face and is an extremely delicate area of skin, so arguably this is where you must focus on and pamper throughout those hot summer months. Eye cream is a product that most people do not splurge on, but we would really advise that you do splurge a little and invest in good products for this area of skin; after all, it’s prone to fine lines, wrinkles and dark circles. Dr Skincare recommends the 111Skin NAC Y2 Space Defence Bright Eye Lift Eye Gel. It’s a cult product with a huge following and that’s why we recommend you treat yourself to this one to revolutionise your summer skin care routine!

Step 5: Moisturise

The next step is to moisturise and we recommend purchasing a good moisturiser with an SPF 30 included in the formula. It’s a double win, hydrating the skin like a moisturiser should but also with a protective effect which guards the skin against harsh UV rays, skin cancer and sun-related damage. And we will still advise that despite using an SPF moisturiser, you should still be adding a separate sun cream to your face afterwards – you can never be too protected. Here, Dr Skincare advises the Murad Hydration Perfecting Day Cream SPF 30 Moisturiser, rated 4.4 out of 5 on Amazon!

Step 6: Face Oil

Step 6 is dedicated to your favourite facial oil. Now how is oil different from serums? Well, let us explain, serums absorb deeply into the skin whereas facial oils have larger molecules that work to protect the skin’s barrier and only penetrate the skin’s surface or outer layer. It also helps to lock in all the preceding products used in your routine! We are still searching for the perfect face oil to recommend – if you have tried any doctor or derma-developed face oils let us know in the comments, we would love to hear from you!

Step 7: Sunscreen

And last, but by no means least, is a suncream. This is arguably the most important step of your morning summer skin care routine. And we hope by this point, we don’t even need to explain why! Just invest in an SPF 50 face sun cream, it’s so important – stay protected this summer. We recommend the Dr Dennis Dark Spot Sun Defence Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 50, it’s rated 4.5 stars on Amazon and is from one of our favourite dermatologist skin care brands – the perfect sun protection.

There you have it, our step-by-step guide to the ultimate summer morning skincare routine using Dr Skincare approved dermatologist skin care products! Our parting note has to take you back to this idea of the holistic approach to skin care which all of our brands endorse, so Dr Skincare’s Top Summer Skin Care Routine Tip is to drink plenty of water throughout the day, and if you’re feeling extra, why not add some cucumber, lemon, orange and strawberries to the water for added antioxidants, vitamins and all-round goodness… because (say it with us) HYDRATION IS KEY!!!!
