The Best Dermalogica Skincare Routine For Acne

I have been suffering from acne for a while and nothing I tried was working. Since starting the Dr Skincare website I have become a lot more knowledgeable about skincare brands and my research found that Dermalogica had a dermatologically tested product range that was proven to target spot-prone skin. Over the years, I have invested lots of money in fad products that didn’t work. I felt that it was time to look beyond marketing and choose a brand that was certified by our core Dr. Skincare credentials. I have shared my full skincare routine below that I do morning and evening. My before and after pictures were taken after just three days of using the products! I’m so happy with the results and I really hope it will help you if you currently suffering from similar skin concerns as me.

Recommended Dermalogica Routine For Acne-Prone Skin

Step 1: Dermalogica Precleanse Makeup Remover

The first step in my Dermalogica skincare routine is removing my makeup using the Precleanse product, an oil-based cleanser that can also lather when mixed with water. Any impurities on the skin, including makeup, can be removed with the use of this phase of a cleansing programme. I enjoy doing a double cleanse, especially in the evening when I have makeup to take off or right after a workout when my skin is the oiliest. My skin feels incredibly clean and decongested after using this lotion. Additionally, it works well for taking off waterproof mascara and even heavier makeup. It also smells amazing which is an added bonus.

I was always sceptical about double cleansing as I thought it was a marketing ploy to make me buy or use more of a product. However, after gathering quality advice from skin experts, dermatologists and doctors I realised that “not” double cleansing can actually contribute to more acne forming on my skin. Research proves that by pre-cleansing, you’re ensuring that both the first layer of sebum, make-up, sunscreen and deeper layers of pore bacteria are removed which is essential to clear spots. It also ensures the cleanser you are using works deeper into the layers of your skin.

Step 2: Dermalogica Glycolic cleanser

From research, I discovered that the daily glycolic cleanser from Dermalogica renews dull, uneven skin and aids in removing buildup. The product really helped bring some life back to my skin as sometimes acne can dull the appearance. Glycolic acid brightens by eliminating dull/dead skin cells.

The skin’s lipid barrier, which is essentially the top layer of your skin and is made up of corneocytes (layers of dead skin cells) and lipids (the skin’s natural fats), is also maintained by a blend of soothing calendula extract and nourishing jojoba seed oil.

Step 3: Exfoliate With Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant

The purpose of this daily exfoliation is to help the skin look more radiant and smooth. By removing dead and uneven skin, exfoliating on a regular basis aids in skin renewal and targets spots deep within the skin. The Daily Microfoliant is a rice-based powder that, when combined with some water or wet hands, activates into a paste. Papain, salicylic acid, and rice enzymes, which are the key constituents, help the skin feel softer, look smoother, and seem healthier. My skin did feel a little drier than usual after the first few uses, so I switched from using it every day to using it every other day, and I discovered that this worked just fine for my skin.

Even after a double cleanse, residue from your cleanser can be left on the skin, so a daily exfoliant can really help remove debris without irritating the skin. When I was recommended this exfoliant I was sceptical about using it every day as my skin can be sensitive to these types of products. However, after researching the ingredients and reading reviews I decided to give it a go and haven’t looked back since! I would say this is the holy grail product that really made the most difference to my deep layer spots.

Step 4: Dermalogica Active Clearing Day Serum

I have tried multiple “trending” serums that claimed to target acne-prone skin. However, I always found the texture to be slimy and irritated my skin. After researching Dermalogica serums for my skin type, I came across the active clearing day serum which had raving reviews on Amazon. I didn’t want to invest £65 in the first trial so decided to buy the product as part of a clearing kit that also featured the daily exfoliant and spot treatment. I have added a link below for anyone interested as I think it is a great starting point if you don’t have to try out the products before purchasing the standard sizes.

Step 5: Moisturiser

Step 7: Eye Cream or Eye Serum
