Altruist Dermatologist Sunscreen SPF 50 – Full Review

Altruist SPF 50 sunscreen will be reviewed in this article

Altruist is currently the number 1 selling sunscreen on Amazon and I couldn’t wait to give it a try!

I have been using the Dr. Dennis SPF 50 dark spot defense sunscreen for a while now and love how it feels on my skin. I was coming to the end of the tube and decided to seek out an alternative that was more budget-friendly, especially as I plan on saving for my next holiday.

Through searching on Amazon, I discovered the top-selling sunscreen was from a brand called Altruist, which had over 11,000 reviews and a 4.7-star rating. I was keen to discover what the hype was about and hoped it would be an effective dupe to my Dr. Dennis SPF product.

Dr. Andrew Birnie, a  British dermatologist, and skin surgeon created the sunscreen company Altruist. The website proclaims that Its goal is to decrease skin cancer by promoting the use of high-quality sunscreens. The most amazing aspect of this company may be that every sunscreen purchase benefits organizations that assist Tanzanian and other African youngsters with albinism. I was therefore keen to support a brand that had a greater purpose and ordered the Altruist SPF 50 pack of 2!

Sunscreen Ingredients

According to the official Altruist website, the product contains the following protective ingredients:
  • Nano Titanium Dioxide
  • Octocrylene
  • Avobenzone
  • Tinosorb A2B
  • Tinosorb
  • Uvinul T 150

The products also offer broad-spectrum protection. This means that it protects your skin from both UVA and UVB rays. SPF50 blocks 98.3% of UVB rays while the UVA rating has five stars.

From our research, the only product to rank higher on protection is the  La Roche Posay Anthelios Invisible Fluid SPF 50+.

So, if you burn easily or have a family history of skin cancer, you should get this sunscreen. Additionally, it is vegan, cruelty-free, coral friendly, and fragrance-free. It mentions that it is also water-resistant, but we’re unsure how long.

Sunscreen Texture

The texture of the sunscreen was one of the things that drew me to it. I enjoy two-in-one products, such as moisturising sunscreen as my skin can get super dry in the sun.

I, therefore, prefer a thicker texture which Altruist offered.

Before purchasing, I noticed some of the reviews mentioned that Altruist was really greasy. However, in my opinion, I didn’t feel it was greasy at all! It actually felt hydrating on my skin which is exactly what I need.

The thick texture of the Altruist SPF 50 sunscreen feels more like a moisturiser than a sunscreen. This is advantageous since many individuals with normal to slightly dry skin can really dispense with moisturizers and simply use them.

Price and Availability

This product is amazing value for the price! By reducing marketing costs, Altruist has been able to keep the price consistently low for consumers. The products usually come in a pack of 2 and can be purchased for just £9!

Comparing shipping costs between retailers, Amazon UK is the cheapest place to purchase Altruist.

Altruist SPF 50 Review

I have previously spent a lot of money on sun products as I am serious about anti-aging and preventing skin cancer. The credentials of altruist matched the previous products with a much smaller price tag.

This sunscreen spreads and absorbs so easily, It also does not peel off my face after a while. It leaves a Dewy finish ( which I like ). Most importantly it contains titanium oxide. This ingredient helps block out UVA radiation which is responsible for most wrinkles. Many sunblocks do not contain this ingredient which means it protects from sunburns but not skin aging. I also noticed it has been recognized by the melanoma patient community, people who require the best protection!

I was also able to wear make-up on top and acted as a perfect prime. I would 100% re-purchase.

Final Remarks

I think the Altruist SPF 50 is a brilliant product. Most importantly, it offers a very high broad-spectrum protection that will protect your skin against any damage from the UVA and UVB rays. I would however not recommend this product to people with oily or acne-prone skin. Instead, a lightweight version is available: Altruist Dermatologist Face Fluid
